New Year, Healthier Food

Posted on

Welcome to a brand new year! We all love new years, because they represent so many possibilities and opportunities to begin again. If one of your resolutions for 2015 is to eat healthier, we have some tips to get started.

1) Learn about what’s in your food – especially the ingredients that you want to stay away from. Highly processed foods may be a quick fix in times of hunger, but they will hurt your health in the long run. Steer clear of aspartame, high fructose corn syrup, MSG, trans fats and artificial food coloring – just to name a few.

2) Calm down on the carbs. Once you kick the carb addiction, you’ll be making space in your diet for more nutrient dense ways to nourish your body. Keep complex carbs for the morning, to provide your body with the long burning energy of whole grains.

3) Eat whole! Make your own food from real, fresh ingredients – this is called a whole foods eating plan. When you eat out, look for food that is also fresh and real. Author Kim Barnouin once said, “If you can’t explain how it’s made to a 7 year old, don’t eat it.”

You only get one body – treat it well! Happy 2015!
