Keeping Food Fresh

Posted on

So, you’ve just gone grocery shopping and you’re feeling pretty stoked with your haul? So you should! Congratulations on buying fresh food, instead of succumbing to quick fast food options. Here are some tips for making sure that your food is kept fresh so you and your family can enjoy it all week long.

  1. Bag Clips

You can pick up a pack of bag clips for just a few dollars at places like Safeway, Ikea and Bed Bath and Beyond. These work by resealing plastic packages, keeping your food safe with minimal effort.

  1. Ziploc Bags

Have these in all sizes! Ziploc brand gallon bags are made in really heavy-duty plastic, meaning that they can be washed and reused. Food will stay fresh for a while in a well sealed Ziploc!

  1. Containers

Companies like Glad and Ziploc sell containers for food storage, which can be easily found at Safeway and Walgreens. These containers are inexpensive, and can be reused many times. The great part about these containers is that they aren’t too precious to be thrown away, if you find yourself needing to offload a container after lunch.

  1. Freezer

If you have too much of something – freeze it! The freezer can be your new best friend, keeping your food fresh for months.

  1. Preparation

The number one way to keep your food fresh, is to prepare! Make a meal plan, shop according to the plan and only buy the items on your shopping list. Make food in advance, separate portions – allocate everything. With a plan, you’ll be well-fed all week with no wastage.
