Vowing to have a better diet and exercise routine are hardly creative New Year’s resolutions. Because most people fall of the wagon a few days into the regime, we’ve got some practical tips to help you stick to your guns.

  1. Be Consistent
    If you’re kicking sugar, all it takes is a cookie here and there – and before you know it you’re addicted to sugar again. Your tastes will change when you give up processed food, making unhealthy bites unpalatable. Just like sugar, making too many exceptions will have you straight back where you were – swimming in an ocean of processed food made of chemicals. It’s a slippery slope, so stay focused.

  1. Be Realistic
    Are you traveling to a place where healthy food is hard to come by? Are you going into the grocery store while you’re ravenous? Realistically, how likely are you to abandon your healthy eating in these moments? Very likely.

  1. Be Prepared
    Pre-eat before attending a party with finger food. Bake healthy bites to avoid scarfing the store bought muffins in the staff room. Stock your pantry with low calorie, nutritionally dense foods and your fridge with fresh produce. Eat small meals frequently to avoid feeling so starving that the vending machine starts calling your name.
