Enjoying Treats in Moderation

Despite what you may think, no food is inherently bad. When we stop categorizing food into “good” or “bad,” we can start considering it as fuel. Which fuel does your body need most? Obviously we run optimally on nutritionally dense food, but that doesn’t completely rule out food with less nutrition to offer. We have three tips for enjoying “treats” in moderation:

  • Allow treats on occasion
    Even when you’re actively trying to lose weight, allowing yourself the occasional treat is one way to make sure you’re less likely to fall completely off the wagon when cravings strike. Learn how to limit, and enjoy in moderation.
  • Don’t regularly keep treats at home
    When you have a fridge and pantry stocked with nutritious food, it’s more difficult to overindulge in treats. Avoid keeping your vice at home, and you’ll be able to enjoy your treat out and about with friends and family.
  • Enjoy high quality treats
    You’ll savor and appreciate an artisan chocolate or a wood fired pizza, compared to simply buying the fast food versions. Not only will you eat less, you’ll have a more “whole” (closer to natural) food to enjoy.
