Happy Hanukkah!

Posted on

Have you ever wanted to make your own jelly donuts? Why not make your own Sufganiyot this Hanukkah! We have a few recipes to share with you.

  • Martha Stewart
Fresh, jelly-filled morsels that celebrate the miracle of the oil. There are mixed reviews as to the amount of yeast to use, but many reviewers have stated that these donuts are basic, simple, and delicious.
  • Bon Apetit
You can refrigerate this dough for up to three hours if you need to make it in advance, and easily swap the strawberry preserve for any flavor you like.
  • NYT Cooking
For something different, try these orange-scented sufganiyot. Still filled with thick strawberry or raspberry jam, the orange-scented dough will add a fresh twist to your Hanukkah treats.

Artichoke Recipes

Posted on

Apples and pumpkins are obvious crowd favorites for fall produce, so today we’re shining some light on the humble artichoke. You can find locally grown artichokes right here in the Bay Area, with farms as close as Gilroy. Here are some fresh ways to use an often unfamiliar vegetable:

  • Roasted
When a recipe starts with, “It’s so simple, it’s hard to call it a recipe!” you know it’s got to be good! Try All Recipes Simply Roasted Artichoke – you won’t be sorry!
  • Stuffed
Starter or side, you’ll want to stuff an artichoke this fall. Here’s a recipe from Simply Recipes – a lovely balance of the creaminess of cheese, with the brightness of lemon.
  • In Pasta
The Spruce posted a penne recipe with fresh artichokes (you can find it here) that is so tasty, but at the same time, so simple. This recipe is full of whole foods and clean flavors, topped with Parmigiano-Reggiano.
  • Dip
Classic artichoke dip takes on a whole new meaning when you use fresh artichokes rather than canned. My Recipes have paired artichoke with kale, and it’s fure to be a party favorite.

The holiday season is fast approaching! The beauty of hiring a catering company like ours is that you can enjoy the party with your guests, without so much as lifting a finger. Alternative Flours

Posted on

Whether you’ve got food allergies, intolerances, or you’re just looking for something new, alternative flours are a great way to vary your diet. Many people rely on non-wheat flours to continue to be able to eat baked goods, and we’ve never before had so many options from which to choose! With gluten free flour, you’ll need more moisture to keep your food from becoming dense, so make sure you use a recipe rather than just Here are a few ways to use just a few alternative flours:

(1) Almond Flour – macarons, “breading” in place of panko, general baked goods
(2) Rice Flour – mochi, thickening agent in soups, bread
(3) Chickpea Flour – bind burgers, pizza dough
(4) Potato Flour – bread making, muffins
(5) Buckwheat Flour – waffles, soba, crepes
(6) Oat Flour – cookies, quick breads, pancakes

You can enjoy all foods in moderation, as long as they’re part of a balanced diet. At Catering Central, we highly value food as a means of connection with others, and aim to give all of our clients a positive and satisfying experience with our services. If you’re looking for corporate catering in the San Francisco Bay (94111), private party catering in Sunnyvale (94086), or general catering in Mountain View (94040) – call us today on (650) 961-3300!

Clean Versions of Takeout

Posted on

Sometimes it’s hard to kick a craving for takeout, especially for comfort food. What if you didn’t have to deny your cravings, but you could simply alter the ingredients to make your “takeout” healthier? We have some ideas for you, when it comes to the classics.

Make your own lean patties, use lower fat cheese, and stack some fresh veggies on your bun. For even better burgers, use good quality organic, grass-fed beef.

To serve with your burgers, or by themselves, bake yourself some fries from scratch. Cut potatoes to your desired thickness, spray or toss with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper. For something extra, add some fresh rosemary.

General Tso

This recipe from Damn Delicious is a lighter take on the Chinese-American favorite. Who knew cornflakes could add something to a baked General Tso’s Chicken dish?

Redefined Mom gives us a delicious healthier burrito recipe, using chicken and all your favorite Mexican ingredients. Try it at home!

Lavash bread makes a perfect thin and crispy pizza crust, especially when you bake it for ten minutes before putting on the toppings. Stack the pizza with veggies, lean meats, and low fat cheese. You’ll meet your pizza need without the excess calories.

Chow Mein Recipe

Posted on

Chow Mein is a popular noodle dish throughout the USA, and is widely known as American Chinese food. Though it is usually served as a side, with added protein, Chow Mein can be a meal in its own right. At Catering Central, we love a good Chow Mein, and we’re excited to share some of our signature recipe with you.

First, it is important to prep your vegetables before you start cooking – this means green cabbage, carrots, and green onions. For the sauce, Chow Mein is made with a mixture of light soy sauce, and dark soy – using a ratio of two parts light to one part dark. Making sure we have plenty of space on a flat top grill, we fry the egg noodles in canola oil before adding veggies and seasoning with the soy mixture. At the end, we add the all-important sesame oil, as well as salt and pepper.
