Fresh, jelly-filled morsels that celebrate the miracle of the oil. There are mixed reviews as to the amount of yeast to use, but many reviewers have stated that these donuts are basic, simple, and delicious.
  • Bon Apetit
You can refrigerate this dough for up to three hours if you need to make it in advance, and easily swap the strawberry preserve for any flavor you like.

Healthy New Year!

Posted on

Healthy living is the by far the country’s most popular New Year’s resolution – and with good reason. A calendar year gives us a natural beginning, a fresh start that provides us with the opportunity to change our behavior and become new. At Catering Central, we love making and eating healthy food, and the positive impact that nutritious eats have on our society.

Generally speaking, healthier food takes longer to make, and is made in the home. When you’ve spent more time making your meal, chances are, you’ll have a greater appreciation for the food you’re eating. When we slow ourselves and eat mindfully, we’re less likely to shovel down our meals out of convenience.

This year, instead of complicating your resolution, focus on one main area of health – eating your fruits and vegetables! Make the majority of your own food, and use simple, natural ingredients. When you’re feeling snacky, reach for something fresh, paired with something that has protein. Try to incorporate fresh produce several times into your day, and you’ll be surprised how great your body will feel.

At Catering Central we highly value health and whole foods. We believe food plays a vital role in not only physical, but emotional health. Our social lives strengthen by building relationships over food, leading to a greater level of connectedness with the world around us. If you’re interested in having your next San Francisco Bay Area (94110, 94024) private or corporate event catered by a company working from this philosophy, call us today on (650) 961-3300. We can’t wait for your call!

Chow Mein Recipe

Posted on

Chow Mein is a popular noodle dish throughout the USA, and is widely known as American Chinese food. Though it is usually served as a side, with added protein, Chow Mein can be a meal in its own right. At Catering Central, we love a good Chow Mein, and we’re excited to share some of our signature recipe with you.

First, it is important to prep your vegetables before you start cooking – this means green cabbage, carrots, and green onions. For the sauce, Chow Mein is made with a mixture of light soy sauce, and dark soy – using a ratio of two parts light to one part dark. Making sure we have plenty of space on a flat top grill, we fry the egg noodles in canola oil before adding veggies and seasoning with the soy mixture. At the end, we add the all-important sesame oil, as well as salt and pepper.

The Skinny on Diet Soda

Posted on

Diet sodas were once touted as a healthier alternative to full-calorie soda, but the more we know about diet soda, the better. The fake sweeteners found in this beverage may suit your calorie count, but they’re a chemical time bomb waiting to explode.

  1. Diet sodas still ruin your teeth
Sugar isn’t the only cavity causing culprit. The acid in diet soda breaks down your teeth’s enamel, causing decay.

  1. A diet soda habit increases your risk of Type 2 Diabetes
Artificially sweetened drinks can alter the processes of your digestive tract, causing blood glucose to rise. Check out this article here for more information.

  1. Frequent consumption of diet sodas are linked with depression
Diet soda won’t give you depression, but this article published in Huffington Post outlines the legitimate link between the two.

  1. … They might actually make you gain weight!
The chemical sweetener’s effect on your gut bacteria may be to blame. Check out this article in Time Magazine for more details.

If you’re planning an upcoming event, let Catering Central take care of the food. We believe that food can transcend simple nourishment, harnessing the power to connect people.
