5 Vegetarian Dinners

Posted on

Vegetarian food is often shunned by meat-eaters as lacking in taste and substance. While some vegetarian meals leave a lot to be desired, other meatless meals are deliciously hearty and fit for any hungry omnivore. Here are five such recipes, that will keep you sustained and coming back for more:

  1. Roast Butternut Squash, Spinach, and Barley Risotto from Delicious Everyday
Nothing fills you up quite like a comforting risotto! While quite carb-heavy, barley boasts several health benefits including high levels of manganese, selenium, copper, magnesium, and even 7g of protein per serving!

  2. Most Things from The Vegan Stoner Blog
Taking vegetarianism one step further to veganism, this blog is a collection of a whole host of healthful, adorably illustrated, hearty recipes. Try the lentil loaf and zucchini bean balls!

  3. Spinach and Goat Cheese Frittata from Real Simple
This is a quick weekend brunch item that will impress your guests, or charm your regular household. You can serve it with bacon on the side if you’re having trouble with a meatless meal!

  4. Grillable Veggie Burger by the Minimalist Baker
Anyone who has ever made a veggie burger or two knows that one of the biggest obstacles to burger-greatness is making sure they don’t fall apart! This one promises to be grillable, so why not give it a shot.

  5. 10 Minute Black Bean Tacos from the Kitchn
If you’re looking for some easy Mexican meals to whip up at home, don’t let black bean tacos fall by the wayside. Packed with fiber, black beans and corn make a complete protein that will keep you going all day.

Interesting Packed Lunches

Posted on

If you’ve resolved to start 2017 on a more healthy note, start by taking your own packed lunch to work. Instead of the usual unhealthy options available when eating out daily, you can control your nutritional intake by packing it yourself. Sure, it takes longer to prepare, but the cost and health benefits are worth it.

  • Wraps
Because of the flat bread, wraps travel better than a regular sandwich. Using some lavash bread, you can even spread cream cheese across the surface as a barrier for some of the wetter ingredients. Try chicken, deli meat, or tuna with basic salad ingredients.
  • Thermos Food Jar
If you’re not into cold or room temperature lunch options, a food thermos will keep your food warm until lunch. There’s no limit to the types of food you can put in one of these jars, but popular lunch ideas include; soups, rice dishes, pasta, and even oatmeal for on-the-go breakfasts.
  • Salads
With a good reusable salad container, you can take your own salad wherever you go. It doesn’t matter if your greens are kale, romaine, spring mix, or arugula – you can be as creative as you like with salad. You don’t even need greens if you use grains like cous cous or quinoa as a base!
  • Leftovers
If there’s a microwave available, you can pack all kinds of leftovers in a glass container with a plastic lid. Make your packed lunch deliciously easy by eating what you’ve already made the night before.

At Catering Central we highly value health and whole foods. We believe food plays a vital role in not only physical, but emotional health. DIY Freezer Meals

Posted on

There’s no hiding the fact that supermarket freezer meals leave a lot to be desired. For a start, they rarely look like the picture on the box, and they’re also usually such tiny portions that they leave you feeling unsatisfied. With some glass or aluminum containers, you can pack your freezer with healthier, homemade freezer meals that you can heat and eat when you’re in a hurry. Here are some classic food ideas for your freezer stockpile:

  • Lasagne
Make your own lasagne using regular beef, or lighten it up with turkey. Assemble the lasagne according to your favorite recipe, but don’t bake it just yet. For best results, thaw the lasagne on the day you’ll be eating it, and bake it fresh.
  • Enchiladas
Just like the lasagne idea, make your favorite enchilada recipe up until the point of baking. Freeze in an ovenproof dish, covered with a lid or foil, and bake on the day. You’ll love the results, and be impressed with how much better it tastes compared to frozen enchiladas from the store.
  • Pizza
Why suffer through thin, sparsely topped frozen pizzas that taste like cardboard? You can make your own from scratch, or hack a store bought frozen pizza by adding a whole host of extra ingredients. Make your pizza your way!

  2. Homemade Kung Pao Chicken from Epicurious
While this recipe requires a quite a few ingredients from the pantry, once you’ve stocked the cupboard with these items, you can make Kung Pao multiple times before needing to restock.

Healthy Start to Your Day – Stanford Cancer Center

Posted on

We recently had the pleasure of serving breakfast to the hard working staff of the Stanford Cancer Center in the South Bay. Recognized globally for advanced clinical care, the Stanford Cancer Center combines state-of-the-art equipment, quality care, and a beautifully calm environment in one package. The center’s expert staff tirelessly give their best to patients, so it was only fitting that their breakfast would be one of health and vitality.

As you can see from the attached pictures, we served fresh berries alongside a yogurt and granola bar. In addition, we brought the protein with sausages and eggs, to keep the staff of the Cancer Center on their toes. We love doing our part to support these fantastic men and women as they fight against such a relentlessly unforgiving disease.

Building Holiday Party Atmosphere

Posted on

If hosting holiday parties doesn’t come naturally to you, but you find yourself in the host role this year—don’t despair! Aside from the food and drinks, one surefire way to impress your guests is to create atmosphere. With the help of a few tips and tricks, your party will create lasting memories for years to come.

  • Lighting
Bright fluorescent lighting doesn’t do anyone any favors. If all your overhead lighting is too luminous, try turning on fewer lights, and supplementing with lamps. The beauty of the holiday season is the amount of alternative lighting easily available—try Christmas tree lights lining the tables, or play Netflix’s ‘Yule Log’ video on a large TV. A fake fireplace is still strangely atmospheric!
  • Playlist
Some holiday songs are just plain depressing! When your playlist isn’t on point, your guests have less fun. Try some upbeat holiday tunes, and the mood will shift. Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ is a good place to start.
  • Theme
Holiday parties come with a simple theme – holidays! Whichever holiday you celebrate, you’ve got red, green, gold, silver, and blue options at your fingertips. Will your party be whimsical or classic? Decide, and stick with the theme.
  • Setup
Be mindful about where you put seating. Too many seats cause guests to sit and restrict mingling, just as seats too far apart will usually cause people to stick with those they know. Think about ways to have everyone mixing and mingling.

Your holiday season is likely full of parties – some of which you may be hosting. The beauty of hiring a catering company like ours is that you can enjoy the party with your guests, without so much as lifting a finger. If you’re seeking corporate catering in Mountain View (94043), general catering services in Palo Alto (94306), or any kind of private event Catering in the San Francisco Bay Area, call us today on (650) 961-3300.
