  • Numbers

  • Budget
Have an idea of what you’d like to spend, but be flexible and realistic. At Catering Central we provide value for money, balanced with quality service, so keep that in mind when planning your budget. You may also need help with factoring in peripheral costs that you haven’t considered – give us a call so we can help you know what kind of funds are necessary for your event!

  • Location
Knowing the location helps us give you an accurate quote. Also, a map/layout of the venue helps our team plan the flow of the event, and stay efficient with service.

Catering Central Salad Bars

Posted on

There’s nothing quite like sinking your teeth into a big, loaded salad for lunch on a hot summer’s day. At Catering Central, we love setting up fresh, quality salad bars for our clients – giving your event’s guests the chance to customize their own meal. That’s right – salad isn’t just a side! A well made salad can be a meal in and of itself. Consider a salad bar for your next private or corporate event, catered by our team.

We’re all about themes, so salad bars can be inspired by the flavors of Asia, Latin America, the Mediterranean – or beyond! The first step towards any salad is the foundation of greens – and we provide a whole host of leaves on which to build your meal.  Whether you’re into spinach, kale, romaine, butter lettuce, or arugula – we’ve got you covered.

Depending on your theme, your salad bar will consist of a wide variety of colorful, fresh produce and dressings to suit. Fruits, nuts, seeds, and breads also pump up any salad – sending it from side to main in an instant. The number one way to make a salad that will sustain your guests, is by providing lean proteins. Chicken, beef, fish, eggs, and tofu are just a few examples of protein that will provide fuel through the afternoon.

At Catering Central we highly value health and whole foods. We believe food plays a vital role in not only physical, but emotional health. Our social lives strengthen by building relationships over food, leading to a greater level of connectedness with the world around us. If you’re interested in having your next San Francisco Bay Area (94110, 94024) private or corporate event catered by a company working from this philosophy, call us today on (650) 961-3300. We can’t wait for your call!

The Catering Central Meal Plan Method

Posted on

Here at Catering Central we pride ourselves on providing well-planned meals for our clients. Today we feature four ways in which we excel at creating meal plans that blow our competition out of the water.

  • Theme
Each part of the meal has been selected to compliment the others, with all elements working in one accord. Themed meals are a symphony of flavors dictated by a particular ethnic cuisine, giving your guests a meal they won’t forget.
  • Inclusivity
We diligently provide choices for all types of dietary needs and preferences. For example; vegetarian, gluten free, vegan, and dairy free guests will always have something delicious to eat.
  • Seasonal
We serve what nature makes available during the season – giving you the best produce that can be obtained.
  • Incredible Salads
Salads are easily the most overlooked part of a menu, and our salads are anything but boring. Specially selected to fit the mains to which they have been paired, our salads offer distinct flavor profiles. For example, our California menus have salads with avocado and quinoa, and our BBQ menus boast a wide range of fresh veggies to suit your plate.

When you choose a themed meal from Catering Central, you are guaranteed a quality product that is sure to enhance your corporate function. Your staff will remember the meal, and build memories together – which is everything you could want in a company event.

3 Ways to Prepare Salmon

Posted on

Salmon is a powerhouse; high in lean protein, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin B12. Boasting a range of health benefits, salmon steaks make the perfect meal for taste and nutrition. Here are three ways to prepare this tasty fish:

  1. Spice Rub
Sprinkle garlic salt and Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute on your salmon. Bake on a foil-covered tray at 400 degrees.

  1. Teriyaki Style
Put salmon steaks in a ziplock bag, and simply pour teriyaki sauce over the top. Let the salmon marinate for at least four hours, before baking or frying. Serve with sesame seeds on top, with a side of rice and salad.

  1. Lemon and Dill
Set each salmon steak on a piece of parchment paper large enough to wrap the entire piece of fish. Add zest on the top, as well as some juice. Season with salt, pepper and some fresh (or dried) dill. Bake at 375 degrees.

The Skinny on Diet Soda

Posted on

Diet sodas were once touted as a healthier alternative to full-calorie soda, but the more we know about diet soda, the better. The fake sweeteners found in this beverage may suit your calorie count, but they’re a chemical time bomb waiting to explode.

  1. Diet sodas still ruin your teeth
Sugar isn’t the only cavity causing culprit. The acid in diet soda breaks down your teeth’s enamel, causing decay.

  1. A diet soda habit increases your risk of Type 2 Diabetes
Artificially sweetened drinks can alter the processes of your digestive tract, causing blood glucose to rise. Check out this article here for more information.

  1. Frequent consumption of diet sodas are linked with depression
Diet soda won’t give you depression, but this article published in Huffington Post outlines the legitimate link between the two.

  1. … They might actually make you gain weight!
The chemical sweetener’s effect on your gut bacteria may be to blame. Check out this article in Time Magazine for more details.

Know Your Oils

Posted on

Oil is a vital ingredient in almost every meal, but the type of oil you use is just as important. This week we have an explanation of a few oils you might find familiar.

  1. High Heat Oils
Look for oils that have a high smoke point, to avoid the release of free radicals into your food. Try: safflower, avocado, peanut, sesame, rice bran, or sunflower.

  1. Oils for Sauces/Dressings
This is where olive oil takes the cake! Also, try walnut, flax or toasted sesame for more adventurous flavors.

  1. Oils to Avoid
Trans fats are never conducive to living a healthy life. These fats are shortenings, and partially hydrogenated vegetable oils – often found in packaged baked goods and fried fast food.

  1. Oils for Baking
When it comes to baking, coconut oil is a healthier alternative to butter and will work in most recipes. Canola and safflower oil also hold up nicely in baked goods.

Catering for a party requires much more than just preparing food. We prepare, transport, heat, serve, and clean up after food.
